I thought that it looked great.

I don't see the need for a jump button, but can live with it. I thought the auto jump feature worked beautifully. I don't see why just because Breath of the Wild had a jump button that traditional 3D Zelda's now also need one. But I'm sure it will work just fine.

My lone complaint is that the bright blue sky over Hyrule Field is gone. Now it's more "realistic" with a toned down shade of blue, hazy, etc. Bright blue skies do happen in the real world and aren't limited to just arcade Sega games and such, but I guess that this has been deemed more realistic.

I just wish that I had a Switch 2 to play it on. Maybe next year. I'm about to order an Analogue 3D for my big hardware purchase of the year, so I suppose I'll break it in with an Ocarina of Time playthrough.

Part of me wishes that they did a companion Switch 1 release with Ocarina of Time 3D from the 3DS remastered to 1080p like Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon. The game looks great in HD via emulation (and there's a new recompiled PC port for a native HD presentation). But Nintendo has gone all-in on the Switch 2 at this point (I think Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 was their Switch 1 finale).

It looks okay, but honestly I never understood the appeal of Zelda games, and I don't think this one is gonna sway my mind any when it comes to getting a Switch 2.

If you haven't started liking Zelda games yet even when Breath of the Wild went more mainstream, you're definitely not going to start with Ocarina.

(Sarcasm, sort of)

I'm actually not sure I'm a fan of that, but we'll see.

I also think it looks fantastic, and I am super excited for it. I'm really happy that we won't be waiting much longer for it as well.

The jump button is the only thing I don't care for so far. I really don't think it was necessary at all in the original game, and it will only make it feel weird now. I hope it's an optional thing we can turn off. I'd rather just let Link auto-jump as he has in the past instead of having to click a button to do it.

But yeah... it's a small complaint. I'm incredibly excited for this!

Was interested until I found out it appears a 1/1 port with more modern graphics. I was hoping for something along the lines of Final Fantasy VII remake/rebirth, familiar but new. That said, probably a cheaper way of owning the game, 3DS is not cheap used, while the N64 original is running well over 100bucks (collectors gold cart version is very pricey).

I wouldn't think that the 3DS version would be too bad. It saw a Nintendo Selects reissue after a few years of being hard to find at a good price. $30 or so for a complete copy in good shape I would think is the going rate now.

We know that they've expanded Hyrule Castle Town. And other areas don't look 1:1 as well. Hyrule Field's terrain is quite different in places for instance, on-screen HUD maps are modified, etc. So I suspect there's going to be some fresh things here to discover.

But if a prettied up Ocarina of Time doesn't sound appealing, you're probably best off skipping it. These Zelda remakes are usually pretty modest in their content additions. Link's Awakening 3D for instance only had the dungeon maker and otherwise seemed 1:1 to me.

As much as we've seen in the game so far, we've also seen very little. So no, none of us know for certain that it's a 1:1 port. Besides the fact that Nintendo has not confirmed that, most of the footage they showed was specifically for those of us who are looking for the familiar in OoT, not just strictly the new.

Besides that, there are some signs that changes or expansions are in the works. Due to the crest for the medallions containing six slots, not just five, there is a lot of speculation that an additional dungeon will be added. The original OoT had the Light Temple cut out due to time constraints, leading to the possibility that it might be added back, but it could be an entirely original dungeon. Even in the existing dungeons, there have been hints that they have been reworked. For instance, what was shown of the inside of the Deku Tree looked very different from what we played in the original game.

The important thing about that presentation was to demonstrate that it will feel the same, and I think they accomplished that without closing the door on this being more than a purely aesthetic change. And that's as it should be. We weren't looking for an entirely new experience in an OoT remake. We could get that from a game that wasn't purporting to be an OoT remake. I think the mix of new and old that allows for the feeling of an original experience while not sacrificing the important familiar aspects is actually a greater balance to achieve than simply trying to make something completely new and slapping a name on it.

You can pre-order for $60 on Amazon versus the $70 after launch. It seemed like a no brainer for me to pick it up the physical copy of it. Even if the reviews are bad, I'm still going to enjoy revisiting Ocarina of Time.
