Apparently some gamers are frustrated with either the price or scarcity of Amiibos and are making their own. This includes writing the DLC to an NFC tag. The amiibo is not a figurine, but a card.

Amiibos are the biggest crock of S to me. I cant imagine if you were a 100%'er and wanted to 100% BotW. It would cost you $400+ in Amiibos to make it happen.
You can buy an NFC tag writer for dirt cheap, and just make your own Amiibos.
