I understand, people need to pay for software if people want software, but I hate subscription services. I'm cheap! I want to own something! I don't even have subscription TV at home.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Urges Developers To Embrace Subscription Services
Now even Nintendo is embracing this model??? Yikes.
I’ve always said when the industry goes digital only, sub-only or streaming only I’ll be done with gaming. That *might* still be true, I’m not sure. I certainly won’t care about gaming as much, that’s certain. It’s a strange dichotomy where small indie games getting physical releases seems to be a big business strategy but the Big 3 still want to push for subscriptions and streaming. AAA releases really do seem to be unsustainable at $60. So why not increase the price? No I don’t mean with season passes and DLC. Just increase the price of the base game by $10 and see what happens? Anyway, I don’t have any answers, except for myself. If we really go all digital, I’d probably just focus on collecting past generations and working my way through my embarrassing backlog. And you know what? I think I’d be okay with that. I’m finally to a point in my life where I could drop new games and just focus on gaming’s rich past. Feels good, man.

I think that artice is a little misleading. He actually said more stuff.

He plainly states that Nintendo is going to continue with fixed cost pricing. His subscription quote was about developers working with subscription services that understood the value of software.
