The lame excuse as why EA is not bringing many of its games on Switch!

Postby Sonicx9 » July 31st, 2019, 12:22 pm

https://nintendoeverything.com/ea-comme ... platforms/

According to Andrew Wilson aka Android Wilson as Jim Sterling calls him he says that "most players also own a PS4/Xbox One and often play the publisher’s games on those platforms." It a dumb excuse because the sport games should be easy shoe-ins because lets face it, if you can get grand, ambitious current gen/PC only in mind titles like the many id Tech 6 and 7 games ported on Switch just fine in downgraded form and even the monster that is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Then their is no reason why games like Madden/NHL and NBA Live could have been on Switch, and speaking of which EA can not even get FIFA right on Switch as the 2017 and 2018 entries are just upgrade Xbox 360/PS3 ports and not the full fat Frostbite 3 versions which BTW a downgrade version of Frostbite 3 engine came to Xbox 360/PS3 even though Switch is way more capable which is sad and lame. Heck even The Sims 4 and the recent Burnout Paradise Remastered did not get proper Switch ports and those are also easy shoe-ins which is a total joke.

No wonder EA hates the Nintendo Switch they do not care for us and it shows.

Dude, it's a company. Of course, they don't care about you, neither does Apple, Google, or Amazon. They are in it to make a profit and find the largest return on investment.

If they thought they could make more money on the Switch with the same level of investment they would do so. It's a business...

They are being fiscally responsible to their shareholders, whom they ultimately report to.

I know it a company, but it sad that one of the worlds largest 3rd party company with billions of dollars is doing little to nothing on a console that is soon about to overtake the global Xbox One sales.

Heck, even Activision, has done more at least with family friendly franchise like Crash, Spyro and Skylanders, and it Blizzard Entertainment division with it late Diablo III port. It only big absence is it big golden goose Call of Duty which is inexcusable for that series.

Switch 3rd party is an interesting mixed bag. From every gains like wooing over Bethesda, NIS, Microïds and MAGES./5PB, etc all of which did little to nothing on Nintendo unitl the Nintendo Switch. And even wooing over newcomers like CD Projekt, Saber Interactive, ACE Team, and rumors of Techland jumping in soon: https://comicbook.com/gaming/amp/2019/0 ... do-switch/ , etc. It biggest 3rd party losses are EA annual sports brands minus gimped FIFA ports, and Call of Duty are the two biggest losses as those two used to be on Nintendo only to fade out.

Would you actually buy Madden on the Switch?

If not why do you care what they publish on it? If you want to play those games buy a used xbox one or ps4 for cheap.

Based on pipelines and tools if you can make a single game that can be ported fairly easily to both PS4 and Xbox One systems you would be irresponsible to not do so. If the same resources or a similar amount of staff have to refactor the game and models to port to the Switch versus working on a new game for nearly twice the potentially available market (Xbox+PS4), that's an incredibly poor decision.

I am not a fan of Call of Duty or EA Sports games, it just the Switch sales in the west would skyrocket because Switch beat the PS4 in Japan likely because EA Sports games and Call of Duty are not huge sellers in Japan. It weird how grand/ambitious game like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt could get a Switch port, yet simpler things like EA Sports games and Call of Duty is rather sad joke that makes 0 sense, that all.

Totally correct. It is so funny how gamers feel so damn entitled! They complain about micro transactions and other means companies make money but what would happen if they started charging $80 per game? People would lose their bleeping minds! Keep in mind that the standard price of a new game hasn't increased in like 20 years and there is no wonder why they need to find other ways to make profit. It's a business...stop acting like these companies owe you anything...they don't.

Back in ye olden days, companies like EA Games would hire outside programming houses to develop and publish their games on systems that they did not develop directly for. In EA's case, their Game Boy and Game Gear titles are examples of this.

Back during the Nintendo DS days, EA was still publishing Madden games on the DS for the early days, and after a short time stopped publishing Madden games, citiing that sales were down. Conversely, the FIFA games continued to be published, as they sold enough worldwide to justify the price. (same with the PS Vita, incidentally).

Unfortunately, mega-publishers like EA and Activision rarely hireout their franchises anymore, instead letting the developers that they absorbed over the years handle the main franchises.

As I understand it, the theory is that the Mega Publishers don't want their brands to be tainted by lesser releases. While there are gamers that would pay for a Madden on the Switch, with the time to develop the game for the Switch specifically, plus working with Nintendo (which EA has been doing less and less since the days of the Game Cube, by the way), mega corps cannot and will not run the risk of a venture that is not a guarantee.

This is one of the reasons I find myself preferring the Indie scene, as games that the Mega Publishers would not touch these days are being made and released out of the wood-works. Now if only someone would make a "generic" Football game without the NFL/NCAA license, I'd be down for that.

The reason we act entitled is because companies like EA are dumb and do stupid things like microtransactions and loot boxes and not supporting the system that going to overtake the Xbox One soon, yet EA does nothing and when people do speak out, the companies can change as people are making videos about this.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NUpVo2uafE

Mega Publishers like the big 2 ( EA and Activision) are not so big on Switch and they love live service crap. And EA Nintendo support declined during the 3DS era but especially the Wii U era and they never went back sadly.

EA have actually slashed their development budgets because they've figured out that they get more money from milking less content. Some guy actually looked up the numbers and put together this graph:

Image

The company is obscenely profitable and already was obscenely profitable before kicking microtransactions into overdrive and dumping actual content like Visceral's nearly complete Star Wars project (there goes the blue bar). This focus on microtransactions would be cynical and exploitative from a company in financial trouble, but it's downright insulting from an 800-pound gorilla like EA.

It's not self-entitlement to want a shred of respect from a game developer, but it is deeply naïve to expect it from a giant in any industry. While you're right in recognizing that EA doesn't owe anyone decency, it's a joke to stick up for the company and the greed and excess that it embodies. Capitalism does not reward morals; it rewards what people can get away with. (And before you assume some political agenda here, I believe that all systems of power are like this.) A successful company does not make money because of some pressing need – it makes money because the money is there.

Ultimately, there's no point in crusading against EA. There will always be an enormous market for their properties, and that market will put up with anything to consume them. But the absurdity of expecting anything to change doesn't make the way things are any less terrible.

Man, is EA such a scum company for all the things they do, and crusading against EA barely does anything as the company is basically a over 9,000 pound gorilla that love to scam, abuse consumers and be like a corrupt piece of crap!
