Is this me or is Dave the Video Game Critic not crazy about the 8th gen as a whole?

I ask because based on some of these reviews he has such as the following: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (gave the inferior 3DS version a high grade despite the Wii U version being better.), Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, The Wonderful 101, NES Remix Pack, Sunset Overdrive, Soulcalibur VI and Tekken 7 (all got lower scores then the god awful Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric game WTF!), Bloodborne (same thing), The King of Fighters XIV (the incomplete mess Street Fighter V getting a higher score blows my mind!) Resident Evil 7 Biohazard (see what I mean about Dave the Video Game critic not being crazy about the 8th gen is with scores like this.) God of War 2018 (same thing as well). If that the case I have to be his puppet and take his opinion seriously and bash on most of 8th Gen outside of Switch and the 3DS and lesser degree the PS Vita (I like that system despite it bad rep it gets.) Or are these reviews not an accurate representation of the 8th gen as a whole, because if you think about it, Critic was a much bigger fan of the 7th gen and below as he gave more high B's/A range scores for high profile games. Also why did critic give the not so great Yooka-Laylee a B- when it deserves a C-/D+ range as many people hate it guts like Jim Sterling. And combined with that along with polarizing opinions of the 8th gen on many social media outlist such as the PC Master Race community and people like ReviewTechUSA being unimpressed with the gen, etc makes it hard for me to like this gen and it a fact.

Heck this topic from 2014 says it best: https://videogamecritic.com/forums/view ... 97&t=10707

Am I missing something it because the critic is so mixed on 8th gen that it become the most polarizing gen the critic has been through, then again I blame that combined with trusting others from the web, or are these sources not the one all end all of this gen, thoughts?

This site is just one fellow writing about the spoils of his hobby, an opinion of the games he plays. Meant for mild entertainment and nothing more. No need to look more deeper than that. If you are wondering about review consistency just ask if the reviewer is applying a filter.

There is nothing polarizing about the 8th gen at all. This generation, like all others, has good games, bad games. No different to other generations at all.

It just reddit and certain YouTubers along with critic review makes it hard for me to like this gen, but that just me.

Only difference is another generation of kids playing on consoles, changing social norms, higher popularity of social media, and higher participating audience due to more widespread internet access. Society has changed, gaming not as much. Still pretty much a joystick/pad in hand, hit buttons at right time... you know typical videogaming stuff. 8th gen is no more polarizing than other gens. People have changed more than games have.

It true that social media during the pre-8th gen was different compared to now as it much larger access, and with larger access equals more black and white opinions like reddit and youtube, etc.

I’m curious. How old is everyone? I’m 38.

I’m wondering if age is possibly linked to this topic....

Once you turn 30, you’re old enough to have nostalgia, which really changes how things past and present are viewed.

I am just old enough to notice in the mirror a couple of grey beard hairs and a thinning of my noggin. I'm 40 although in two months will be 41.

This. The end.

Tread carefully, Sonic. I understand you have questions that you want answered, but I'm not sure that calling out the administrator of this website by name is the best way to go about it. There is a "Feedback" link under the main "Home" tab on the front page, and if you want to contact The Critic directly and give him your feedback, I feel that may be the best manner to have your questions answered and feelings heard.

I can't speak for The Critic, directly, but if I ran a website such as this one and one of the regular users was calling me out by name on the Forums... hm. Let's just say it wouldn't sit well with me. You don't know The Critic personally. Yes, others occasionally call him by his first name, but for the sake of keeping the tone respectful, I don't think that's the proper way to address him as a relatively total stranger. It falls under the "netiquette" category that many of us seem to forget about from time to time.

Writing The Critic a polite e-mail to ask him about a few things? Fine, go for it. Starting a topic on the forums to question his decisions and open it up for debate? I dunno, man. Put yourself in his position. If you ran a website like this, would you want someone on the message boards doing that to you?

BTW, I did a custom email about this to the critic himself so hope to see a response soon, I hope it opens a large can of worms as it will show what his polarizing feelings are on this gen as a whole.
