People buying consoles for PT

So we all know stuff you download from the internet isn't guaranteed to be there in the future, and that's what happened to the now-canceled horror demo PT.

What amazes me is that people are actually buying entire consoles just because they have a copy of PT on them! I've heard people speculate this would happen, but never believe them until now!

I think this also says something about the value of physical media.

Hey good to see you're finally a believer, Critic!... I've been prophesizing (or rambling) about this on the forums since as far back as 2012 with my topics about "the future value of downloadable games", about game collectors in 20 years needing to collect systems rather than physical games in order to relive the downloadable games of their youth:

Along with this 2017 follow up discussion when Wiiware closed down, sadly losing those digital games forever to the abyss:

Back in 2012, it seemed a little too abstract judging from the responses, but I think we're getting closer to that reality now. I think it will really kick into gear in the 2030s and 2040s, when the kids of today are trying to collect digital games from their childhood. PT is probably the best example of this concept that exists right now, because it's so sought-after. But the Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 digital catalogs won't be too far behind it.

Funny, I intentionally deleted the PT demo knowing full well I couldn't get it back. That's not my cup of tea. All the more power to those that like it, but it certainly wasn't for me.

Eh, there’s always crazy people out there who will buy random things for random reasons. Lol

What makes this story even stranger is the fact that PT apparently was transferable to and fully playable on the PS5 earlier in the prerelease period. Polygon reports that the game transferred and played just fine on the PS5 as of October 24, and GamesRadar reported the same as of October 27. In the days since, though, that situation changed to block both transfer and play on the PS5. Even copies previously transferred are reportedly listed as "Playable on PS4" when viewed on the PS5's Library menu.
Probably a licensing issue.
