Plumbers Don't Wears Ties: Definitive Edition: anyone played it yet?

Postby CaptainCruch » April 27th, 2024, 4:29 am

Has anyone played "Plumbers Don't Wears Ties: Definitive Edition" yet? I'm sort of interested. Not really in the game, but especially in the included documentaries, but I'm not really sure if they're indept enough to acquire this for 20 dollars. So you can anyone comment on this one yet?

Never heard of it, but it sounds more like the title of a porn movie.

I think I'd have a better time setting 20 dollars on fire, frankly

I actually have this game but my Switch is currently occupied by the latest Prince of Persia game.
The next time my friends come over I will let them have a look.

This whole conversation is disturbing.

Yes, if the game is interesting to you, then it’s worth the $20+. I’ve been interested in the game since the VGC reviewed it years ago - purely for the 90s weirdness of it all - but the 3DO version wasn’t worth the price to me. With the PS4 release, I finally played it. I played the game once or twice, and then watched the documentary videos. They brought back the woman who starred in the game, so you get a lot of great insider info from her. If you’re playing it for the novelty or the history, it’s worth sinking a few hours into the game and extra features.

Thanks, besides the actress, are there any interviews with developers from the game? (I only saw some clips with people from Limited Run and the AVGN).
Also, is it true the extra's have to unlocked via a mini-game, or are they available straight from the start?

I subjected this game to my friends last night and they could not stand it. It really is, quite possibly, the worst game ever.

That said, I'm glad I have this definitive edition. For one thing, you get to experience the original game in its awfulness, but also with improved graphics.

And there are a ton of video clips, images, and other stuff to unlock. They aren't hard to unlock. You might have to play though the game once to earn enough to unlock everything. Then there's a special first-person maze where you have to locate all the unlockables while the boss chases you around. Kind of scary.

So if you're curious at all, go for it.

I'm struggling how to grade this! On one hand, it's just a terrible game. On the other hand, this definitive edition does a great job of dressing it up and making it feel like a celebration of sorts. I'm thinking that the production values might cancel out the actual game.

F-

I tried an emulated version of it on my arcade. The story is atrocious. I can't believe anyone thought this was a good game, much less taking the time to re-release it on the Switch. Gross.
