The Pinball Arcade (coming early 2012)

Postby MegaSaturnDrive86 » December 3rd, 2011, 12:57 pm

Here's a trailer for this upcoming pinball platform:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtQa-ONdz9I

It's going to be made from the same team who did the Pinball Hall of Fame series. They plan on releasing around 50+ tables, including licensed tables. Practically every major pinball company will be represented.

Unfortunately, it's download-only; however, I think that's a good thing since more people could have access to it, rather than be sold on a low-print release.

The Pinball Arcade has an active Facebook page and have answered quite a few questions thus far.

Can't wait for this one!

I'm excited as well, but I don't think they have much of a fanbase at this forum.

I duuno, the Video Game Critic likes pinball and loved Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection on the Xbox 360. I've seen other people on this forum like pinball games as well. I do agree about the low quality videos, but the game still looks good enough to purchase, especially if the price is comparable to the Zen Studios games.

I love Pinball FX 2 as well, but this and the Zen Studios games are apples and oranges. The Pinball Arcade is about successfully recreating the actual pinball experience, while the Zen Pinball series consists of typical pinball table designs with flashiness and features not possible on a pinball machine; kinda like the Cirque du Soleil of pinball.

I'm personally more willing to support The Pinball Arcade over Pinball FX 2 since I like real pinball over fantasy pinball. I'll still support both though.

There's a making-of video of this platform here:

It's part of The Pinball Arcade's 12 Days of Pinball Christmas on Facebook.
Starting tomorrow, we're going to celebrate the Twelve Days of a Pinball Arcade Christmas by releasing more information, new videos, or new screenshots about our game each day for 12 days. We'll start by uploading the HD version of the making of video to our youtube channel that is currently available on IGN.com. We hope you enjoy! Have a happy holiday season, everyone!!!
If you turn off the special effects on Pinball FX 2, it plays just like any other good pinball simulation, but with nice HD visuals

I love Pinball FX 2, with or without the effects (I have the Arcade FX mode disabled, myself); their tables are rather fun, especially for being custom designs.

However, I'm still more excited for this game since it's one of the only pinball platforms dedicated to recreating real pinball tables; if video games can be emulated, why not pinball (especially since their Williams collection was a very solid emulation)? Judging from their making-of video, they seem to know what they are talking about, so I think this title is in good hands.

The Pinball Arcade has announced their pricing structure on Facebook here:
Merry Christmas!! and Happy Holidays to Everyone!!! Each month, The Pinball Arcade will feature one game as The Table of the Month. At launch, this table will be Tales of the Arabian Nights. The Table of the Month on most platforms will cost 99 cents. [We’d prefer to offer it for 99 cents on all platforms, but there are some console restrictions we may have to abide by that would restrict this pricing model]. After each month is over, the Table of the Month will go back to it's regular price which will typically range between $1.99 and $2.99 (with $3.99 currently planned for tables with expensive ancillary licenses).
Very nice structure! The ability to buy each table individually, with most tables costing around $2-3, and have one table a month for $1 is an instant win.

New video showing off their new ball tech:

Looking much, much better than their previous console attempts! This game is definitely in very good hands!

While I don't have an eye to pick up on a major physics advance, I think it looks good. Everything they're saying and showing off has pleased me so far.

Looking forward to it and I hope the project lives up to their ambitious plans.

Here's a video showing off how improved the lighting is compared to their previous pinball releases:

I think it makes the original Williams Collection obsolete, graphically.

I also want to give a heads-up that this game will release on the Xbox 360 come March 28. Here's the address (click on "Overview"):
