So it released on games pass at midnight or there about. I am playing it right now. So far it is not Doom. Doom was set on Mars, had Demons was SF. Demons come out of hell, and you have to kill them. Doom 3 was the pinnacle of the series.
Then came the time to remake it. Doom 2016 came out and was for the most part faithful to the series.
Then came Doom eternal. Run jump, climb and then do a qte to get more ammo when your victim was glowing. Loads of cuts scenes but nothing much to do with Doom. Now you are back, but this time you are in the dark ages. This could be amazing, like a Warhammer version of doom.
I have seen they have fixed a lot of the annoying parts about eternal, where you were forever short of ammo. So far, probably a b plus. Though only time will tell.

It is a sequel to Doom Eternal. So if you like that game, you will like this one as well. It feels a lot more polished this time around. The cut scenes are still around, but they have worn me down somewhat, so I am a lot more receptive to them this time around.
It is still a Doom Raider game where you need to jump about but this one so far does not have the ludicrous ammo limit of eternal, making it more of an FPS and less of a QTE game.
Plus it has a big robot stage. Also, unlike most big robot stages it is a lot of fun. B+

I am now on the Panzer Dragoon stage. Hmmm I am on a dragon shooting targets. I was never a huge fan on PD but it was better than this game. What it is doing in a Doom game is another matter entirely.

I am in the flying dragon stage now and honestly I think it is fun. Is it "Doom" per se, meaning faithful to the oringal? No. But I understand games have to evolve. The whole upgrade and combat system is also not faithful to the original but I am really enjoying it. I also like the fact that there are plenty of "secret" areas to find, which of course, is faithful to the original. The more I play the game the more I like it, it is definitely an addictive, fun game for me. I would put it in the A-/B+ stage now. Anyway, would love the VGC to review this game but I guess he is hung up on the online thing.
I actually like Doom Eternal more than Doom 2016 (probably need to go back and replay that one) but so far I think this one is the best of the 3. Anyway, just glad to have a new Doom game in 2025.

Hated the flying level. Deleted the game. I remember it in Turok. Yeah, you needed to practice it, but not in Doom. Oh, well, back to gears 5 and Oblivion.
I also have Fallout London on Gog.com. So I will be playing that instead.

To each is own I guess. I am really enjoying the game. I like the fact that there is an exploration/risk/reward angle throughout the levels. The flying section didn't last very long but I get that it certainly doesn't feel like "Doom".
