They were annoying, but as long as you could get them 1v1 they weren't too bad. The ones I hated were the giant crawfish. You'll just be trying to cross the map when one will appear beneath you. They'll chase you halfway across Liurnia, and unlike the crabs, they'll snipe you with their water blast if it looks like you're going to outrun them.

Just wait until you get to the Sewers in Leyndell and two of them are hanging around. Get great smithing stone loot if you can sneak around and avoid them or finish them off ;) .

I need to point out again just how freaking overpowered the Mimic Tear is. I was beating my head against the Draconic Tree Sentinel outside Leyndell for an hour tonight. I could get him down to half health easily enough, but once he started throwing out his lightning attacks, he folded me like a piece of paper especially since his stupid horse is programmed to shoot a fireball at you if you try to heal. Then I remembered that I have the Mimic Tear, pulled him out at the beginning of the fight, and he proceeded to absolutely thrash the boss. I've leveled it up to +10, so it might actually be even stronger than I am. I'm almost reluctant to use it, since it does the impossible and makes the game too easy.

I will have to start a new game to try the Mimic Tear. I booted my old save file but I had already wiped all the bosses so no way to test it out. You have made some good progress, the area you are in now is awesome!

I'm trying to do all the Volcano Manor quests before killing Rykard so I can talk some more to my future snakewife. I hear killing him first locks you out of another quest that involves her.

I have a few complaints about Elden Ring, but the biggest one is how easy it is to irreversibly screw up quests, or just miss them entirely.

I think the main one that counts is the Ranni side quest - consider that one a must although I do not think you can lock yourself out. The other involves the Dung Eater (he is the red ghost dude in the Roundtable) although in the first run I would not suggest you worry about him since his game ending sequence does not give you a trophy. There is a side quest in the Volcano manor involving the girl who can transform into a snake (I think you are right in that killing Rykard KO's this quest). I did not finish it because Volcano manor is pretty big and she is hiding out somewhere and I ran out of patience trying to find her.

Volcano manor? Rykard is an awesome gimmick boss, quite similar in some sense to Yhorm from Dark Souls 3. I would be curious if you can summon your Mimic Tear here and he also sports the gimmick weapon you are given to beat Rykard. If both of you can spam the weapon special that would be a quick and easy boss fight (One Vs One it was a pain in the butt because as you know with these sorts of games, big boss and wonky camera = WTF is going on  ).

I wanted to use Seluvis' potion to turn him into a puppet that I could summon, but it turns out that if you finish Ranni's quest before finding him, and Seluvis dies from irrelevance, you can't give him the potion, even if you haven't given it to Nepheli Loux or Gideon. No reason why, you just can't. So I killed him while he was tied to that stupid chair, but that wasn't nearly as satisfying.

Yeah Seluvis croaks. When wrapping up the Liurnia region, I came across him in spectral form in the Carian Study Hall and he was the annoying NPC spamming spells at you. When I killed him and later returned to his Rise, he was dead. Interesting you fight Dung Eater in his spectral form near the City walls and he does not croak.

I got to Miquella's Haligtree today, and is it just me, or is late game Elden Ring a lot less fun than early- to mid game Elden Ring? First the Consecrated Snowlands have that "blizzard" filter that keeps you from seeing more than twenty feet in front of you. Then I tried to run a dungeon I happened across, and got my butt handed to me by an even stronger Astel, a boss who was annoying even in his normal state. Then I found a giant nun who did nothing, but now Latenna says I've finished quest and ?????????? Then Ordina the Liturgic Village made me parkour across town while freaking machine gun archers hit me from above and invisible assassins who have more health than I do butcher me on the ground. All that just to get to the Haligtree, where a bunch of weeble-wobbles use party blowers to kill me with bubbles when I'm not falling off the @$&# tree.

I rage quit for the first time in years today. I'll give it another try tomorrow, but unless something magically clicks, I'm probably going to say screw it to all the optional late game stuff, kill the fire giant, finish the game, and move on.

This is my favorite area in the game (this and Farum Azula). There is a way of making it much easier.

Get a Greatbow and snipe from distance - one shot see's these blobbies fall to their doom. Once thinned out, take care of ants, and then collect loot at your leisure. Alternative = book it.

Consecrated Snowfield is basically From Software's contemporary redesign of the dreadful Frigid Outskirts area in DS2 (less the reindeer). Boring area along with Mountaintop of the Giants. Elden Ring is definitely too big and they ran out of new content.

One of the worst boss designs in the game, they took the Amygdala from Bloodborne and decided to make it even less fun. The only good thing about that dungeon was level 8 smithing stones.

Typical From Software to not inform you in game that there is a torch called the Sentry Torch that you can use to see the invisible ones. The archers are annoying no matter what.
