Twisted Metal (PS1)

Postby Van Halbgott » September 12th, 2026, 7:07 am

I finally got to playing Twisted Metal yesterday.

I wanted to play Twisted Metal Black (PS2) but then I decided to start with the first game in the series and I’m thrilled to be playing it…so far, I’ve only gotten stuck on fighting Darkside because he keeps freezing me in place and blowing me up, but I do hope I can get better and beat him.

I kind of also want to get Twisted Metal 2 and some working DualShock controllers for my PS1 if I possibly can, but I mainly look forward to getting a PS2 next month and playing Twisted Metal Black on it, which would be even more exciting to play…I just won’t be watching the streaming series on Peacock because they took the whole game series and turned into a comedy…yet the games are darker.

Twisted Metal 2 is also great. Of course that applies when Spectre isn’t using his relentless unavoidable homing special.

Twisted Metal 2 is my fav of all of them ! On ps1 , it’s a different take than the others but twisted metal small brawl I found to be fun as well !
Twisted metal black def steps it up and is a very fast paced game !

I liked 1, but by the time I got a Playstation TM2 was coming out soon after. Once I played TM2 I never went back to TM1.

TM2 is the best! Everything else is not as good. I was excited about Black. But thought it was too darn hard to even see. Everything was so black.

TM2 is the only one I’ve played in the series, although I still want to try the PS3 game because of the Critic’s A+ review.

For TM2, I owned it in the 90s and played it again fairly recently. I’ve always found it a little overrated- like I feel like it’s a classic because the concept was so cool, rather than it actually being a great game. My biggest gripe is the controls are difficult and it’s not easy to target opponents. Feels like pure luck half the time when you finally blow someone up.

The first Twisted Metal is essential for the PS1. Twisted Metal 2 is also great. At first in 1996 I thought it was a lot better than the original. I remember being able to jump on top of the subway seemed incredible for 1996.

As time has gone by I’ve come to appreciate the original for levels like suburbia and an easier difficulty, Playing the 2nd game on hard is a heck of a challenge because Moscow and Holland, especially the latter are almost insurmountable. And you need to load up on weapons which takes quite a bit of time only to immediately die most of the time.

They’re both great 2 player. Another thing that sucks about the 2nd is that Spectre’s homing special is way too hard to deal with.
