I've had this for over a year and just got round to playing it, initial impressions are I'm finding the size and scope overwhelming (I generally prefer more linear action/arcade games) but hopefully I can find a foothold in the game. It strikes resemblances to Deus Ex and Bioshock in some ways.

Given the generally favourable reviews this game obtained I'm going to stick with it, but I just seem to be talking most of the time which for someone who only gets 1-2 hours of game time a day can get tiresome.

I normally play it in 3 or four hour slots.  The thing about that game was that it was huge.  100 to 200 hours to beat it.

Luckily you can save wherever you want.  When you get out of the bunk you want to head over the megaton.  You get a choice there.  Things really get going when you get your character up to level 6.  It is just a suggestion but do not travel at night for the first bit of the game until you level up.

Great game no doubt but the open world does have it's disadvantages, if you do certain things in the wrong order you can find yourself stuck in an unwinnable situation that forces you to restart or revert to an earlier save.

Probably my favorite game on the 360. After playing it I can't be bothered to play anything else. Nothing else is as good, except maybe New Vegas. After having an open world I tend to lose interest in linear rpgs.

I'm finding this tough going, only enjoying it passages. Not always obvious what your supposed to do or where you supposed to go.

This just isn't my sort of game, I enjoy the firefights you get involved in, but then that's interspersed with the travelling and trading you have to do to replenish supplies, ammo, etc.
I don't find the story that compelling, and atmosphere isn't as good as say Bioshock.
I can see why people like it, it just ain't my thing.

It sounds like you wanted to like it. Too bad it wasn't for you. I love the micromanaging of gear, traveling and interacting with the people. Ironically I hated doing all that in the old RPGs.

I quit smoking in real life so in this game I hoarded every carton of cigarettes I could find. I had them all stashed in that closet in your home in Megaton.

The one thing I kept wishing I could do was open my own shop. I had better stuff in my home than every traders stuff all put together.

Have you still got your leather jacket?  For me this was the best game on any generation.  It took me so long to get into it and then I was hooked.  Simply superb.
I have spent so much time playing this game.  It got me through a lot of really bad times in my life.  Also I think the sheriff in Megaton is so cool.
