Here's a list with some first person shooters I've played recently and some quick impressions:
Call of Duty Classic (PSN): Solid WW2 shooter. Feels refreshing to play this after my last COD which was Modern Warfare 2.
Red Faction (PS2): Similar to Half-Life. Also reminds me of Total Recall. Fun with a sense of humor, but very bland environments and shoddy gameplay.
Red Faction 2 (PS2): Better gameplay but environments still dull. Worse story. The death screams are fantastic though.
The Darkness 2 (PS3): Interesting and unique. The darkness powers offer up a variety of ways to handle combat. The cel shaded graphics are vibrant, and the voice acting is actually decent. Better than the first.
Singularity (PS3): Returned it after 90minutes of play. Felt too generic. Maybe I'll give it another shot some day.
Wolfenstein: The New Order (PS4): Too many modern conventions. I would've preferred a more old school approach. The gunplay is handled well, and the graphics are good. Stealth is half-baked, and anything involving the hideout and using the laser weapon to cut things is just bad. Rips off Half-Life, Red Faction, Bioshock a bit, and Call of Duty.
Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition (PSN): I never played this back in the day… but it's one of the best games I have ever played. Great, fast gameplay, fun characters and humor, great variety in weapons and enemies, and fantastic level design. Hopefully the new Doom can recapture the glory days of this classic shooter era.

Of that list I only played Wolfenstein: The New Order (on Xbox 360) and I thought it was alright. The story was so-so, but I thought it was a worthy addition to the franchise (though I seem to one of the few that liked Wolfenstein 2009 better).
Furthermore, I thought about playing Singularity, since I'm a fan of BioShock and Half-Life 2 and that game should be like it... is it not?

I think you definitely need to give Singularity another try, the plot gets really good after a few hours.
Never really cared for the Wolfenstein series.

I have Duke Nukem 3D, but I haven't played it yet. Looks like I'm going to have to change that. I'm also looking forward to the new Wolfenstein. The local video store has it used for $12.99; maybe I'll pick that up too.
I don't play a lot of FPS, so the only one of these I've played was The Darkness 2. Rented it right after getting off of college for the summer and for 3 days my life pretty much revolved around it. Liked the cel-shaded art, story and the characters (I remember reading the comics as a teenager), plus the dual wielding of both guns and tentacle/monster powers was novel. I'd put the game in the B+/A- range.

Captain Crunch- Yes, Singularity is similar from what I've played. It just didn't grab me.
velcrozombie- Don't get me wrong, Wolfenstein was good. It just wasn't great. But every time I engaged in shootouts I had fun.

I didn't see any resemblances to Half-Life 2 or Bioshock at all with Singularity.
