This is a fantastic game. Though difficult. I'm not sure if the input lag on my TV has anything to do with that.

Lots of those old 8-bit systems have some great games. It's all I play; I couldn't be bothered with anything that's come out in the last couple of generations.

Used to play this on my friends Atari XE back in the day. It's the only good game I remember him having.
Believe this is on the Activision Anthology on PS2, really need to dig that out.

What's your highest score Herschie ?

Haha I'm guessing like 2. I really stink at this game. I've gotten higher scores in FIFA.

Gotta love blowing up a fuel barge AFTER taking all of its fuel!

That's cold.

My wife found one of them old CRY Tv's, so I figured I'd be a little better at this without the input lag. Well, I figured wrong, I'm still terrible. This is why in serious matters I let my wife do the figuring.

Lucky man to have an understanding wife, Herschie.

The 2600 version was my favorite till I picked up a copy for the Atari 5200. Something about moving tanks trying to cross a bridge that gets blown up. Can't be helped the bridge has to be blown. The Video Game Critic worded it nicer in his review.

That's the best part of the entire game. Especially when you approach said fuel barge when you have next to no fuel and you're about to die. Nothing like cheating death for a few moments just so you can blow up more helicopters, planes, boats and of course, more fuel barges.

This was one of the few video games my father would actually sit down and play. And he was pretty good at it too.

Sometimes practice makes perfect, and so I'm a lot better at this now. So for some reason on my Samsung 4K, I can't put game mode for the coaxial cable input. That really sucks, because that little moment's hesitation often is the difference between me getting my shot off in time and me getting blown up by an enemy because I could not get my shot off in time. The funny thing is, game mode is available on every other input, but not the coaxial.

Fortunately I have two tvs in the Video Game Room (VGR), and there's very little lag on the other one. Oddly enough, it's also a Samsung, and get this; the remote controllers for both tvs will work on the other. Often I end up accidentally turning them both on.

And so now that that's all cleared up, I am absolutely hooked on River Raid. Riveted, I tell you! I love the simple fun, and I often find myself playing for longer than I intended because the short games encourage you to have one more go at it. I'll tell myself that I don't have time for a game of MLB The Show, but then I end up playing this for longer than it would have taken me to play nine innings.

This also begs the question; what other Atari 2600 games are out there that I would be hooked on?
