I've been playing this on PC after picking it up on the Summer Steam Sale, though I believe it's available for download on both PS4 and XBox One - no physical release unfortunately. The other unfortunate part is the lack of an MLB/MLBPA license, so it's all fictional teams and names. That said, the names are all hysterical and memorable!

The game has cartoony graphics, but plays pretty straightforward. While the teams and players are reminiscent of Baseball Stars 2 on the NEO-GEO, it plays more like MLB Power Pros on the PS2/Wii. You select your pitch and where you want to throw it, then you have to "aim" for where you want to throw the ball. Batting is as simple as lining up the reticle with where you think the ball is going to go. My favorite part is the fielding, which usually I struggle with in most baseball games. There's an assist here that works with you. It will move your players towards the ball but you can also take over as you please, or you can move your player towards the ball and then let the assist help you line up the catch. The game gives you a lot of assists actually, and it's all done with the Ego system - basically a difficulty slider from 0-99 that adjusts how much the game is going to help you, and it works really well!

The game is fast paced and just plain fun. They have your usual exhibition and season modes (no franchise mode however), endless customization options (people on PC have actually created unofficial MLB teams and players you can download), and even the online modes are surprisingly good (the main one is a pennant race that resets every week, and played with 5 inning games). Being a download only title I doubt the Critic will check it out, but if you are looking for a better baseball game than RBI Baseball, it's definitely worth checking out. It may not have the flash of The Show, but it definitely has the gameplay.

I might just check this out! I've been playing The Show since 2012, so as much as I love it, I could use a change of pace.
