This is another game that reminds of of just how far I've come in life. At the time I originally played it, I was living at home, smoking a lot of pot, and had a hard time getting a date. As such, often I'd go outside while my mom was sleeping, smoke a blunt, then come back in and play this. No job, nothing.

Fast forward 15 years, my wife and I bought a house a little over a month ago, and I'm coming in to play Echoes after making out with my wife on the patio loveseat in the back yard that we just grabbed from Menards while the dogs were running around and enjoying themselves. No blunt, but a glass of whiskey and a bong was the order of the day. And I have to go to work Monday morning, so I guess that's changed too.

But often, games remind us of the way things were when we played them, and that's why they feel more nostalgic than anything else (Otherwise, why the HELL would I play Alex Kidd?). Fortunately, Echoes is also a fun game, and is a worthy successor to the original Prime. The music and sound effects haven't missed a beat (See what I did there?), and is it just me, or are those graphics slightly better than the first Prime?

Gameplay wise, it plays equally well to the original, but the difficulty has been raised a bit. That's not a bad thing though, and I found myself on the edge of my seat last night trying to safely get to a save station after beating a boss and collecting several items. And this was after I was stuck and stumped for quite a while before I finally found a path that I had missed (Sound a bit like Zelda?).

I love the Prime series and just the overall atmosphere it brings. It has that abandoned, desolate feel to it, yet you almost feel like you're on some sort of sacred ground. Another game that puts me at ease when I play it.
