As a big fan of FPS games I'm not a fan of vehicle based equivalents, as it makes the controls very slippery.

I gave it a go a few years ago. I don't remember it being "horrible", but it definitely overestimated how much of a hook scooting through tunnels could be. Basic and repetitive.

There's a spin-off rail shooter called Viper that looks much better, although I haven't played it myself. Wikipedia says that Tunnel B1 and Viper were originally supposed to be sections of the same game; if so, I'm glad that Viper got to stand on its own.

Definitely more of a tech demo than an actual game. Honestly, it was one of the first PlayStation games that I ever played. Played a demo disc at a friend's house that had this game on it along with ESPN Extreme Games, Warhawk, and a few others. I liked Tunnel B1 for what it was, as the simple joy of just driving around and blasting away at everything was all I really wanted in a videogame back then.

Of course, once I played Warhawk, Tunnel B1 was quickly forgotten!
