Roger Clemens MVP Baseball (SNES)

Postby VideoGameCritic » June 1st, 2020, 5:39 pm

I am fascinated by this game. It doesn't have an MLB license, but the game features some really great camera angles. For example, when the ball is hit into the air, the game switches to the outfielder's perspective, which looks amazing.

I'm still learning how to play this game, but so far I'm glad it's not just another generic baseball title.

I don’t recall the SNES version, but really loved the NES version. Unfortunately Baseball Stars was so awesome that I didn’t play Roger Clemens more.

One thing I liked about the game was you had to guess the pitch as a batter. The fastball and change-up varied in speed so much you couldn’t react quick enough if you guessed wrong. It really gave an edge to pitching which most NES baseball games couldn’t do.

I also loved the fake teams and names. Detroit Wheels was cool and I still remember laughing that Rob Deer was named Bambi.

Oh Snap Dragon, Critic man! I forgot about that. That is so wrong for you to even own that game. Anything that portrays the Confederate flag in any manner should be destroyed at once or else you are a racist and contributing to the tolerance or indifference to slavery.

Also, kinda weird that the New York team was the one they decided to call the Rebels instead of a southern team. But all this flag talk has me itching for some North and South on the NES.. Will the Critic defeat the Confederacy sometime soon? Sounds like a good July 4th review.

I am in fact going to review North and South on July 4th! It's time!
And I'm really going to dig deep to do this game justice. It's a very nuanced blend of arcade and strategy.

Maybe Mark can gin me up a "contains Confederacy references" icon! I bet no other game sites have that one.

Now we're talking! Looking forward to it. I hope you got to try 2-player, but it's understandable if you didn't get the chance with all the social distancing going on.

On the bad side.. I'm running out of games to harass you about playing. I had a good 10 year run mentioning North and South in the forums here...

Edit: Did a quick search and, sure enough, my first post about it was March 2010.

I did try the two player, but I don't think my friends spent enough time with it to gain an appreciation for it. Even I'm still learning all the subtle nuances of that game.
