I'm currently re-reviewing this, along with its sequel.
I can't overstate how psyched up me and my friends were about this game back in the day. We loved Ghouls and Ghosts so the idea of a 3D version was just insane.
And the game starts off great, with a dark atmosphere and that familiar refrain - now fully orchestrated.
The controls feel so good as you double-jump between platforms and slice through skeletons.
But man, the fun really dissipates quickly. Enemies start blocking everything and a lot of chests won't open. You need to perform a special move just to activate the checkpoint posts. The camera in this game is awful. I felt like I was in a box.
Looks like I'm downgrading my current Maximo review. Maybe its sequel addressed some of the issues. Then again, considering it was the last Maximo, I kind of doubt it.
Thoughts?
