Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest (SNES)

Postby VideoGameCritic » July 24th, 2022, 11:03 am

I can't believe I left this out of my pirate special? It doesn't get much more piratey than this!!

What a great game this is. The eye candy is off the charts and the platform action is so precise! If you like pirates the pirate ship and pirate cove stages are very enjoyable. And the sound effects (creaking hulls, echos) really add a lot too.

This is the Donkey Kong Country game to play in the summer! I'll have to revisit my review to see if it could use any improvements.

Ah yes Diddy's Kong Quest, you are correct about it being summery and piratey. I loved the bosses even though some of them were off the charts difficult (like the King Zinger and of course Kaptain K. Rool himself). It's not without its flaws though, the difficulty can rub some people the wrong way, and having some places cost some coins can be cumbersome. Whereas in the first you could save or transport for free. I do love the soundtrack among my favorites are the Crocodile Cauldron theme, Gloomy Gulch theme, Stickerbrush Symphony, The boss theme (with touches of the Sorcerer's Apprentice), and Snakey Chantey.

The best game on the SNES in my opinion. I'd rank it higher than Super Mario World, even.

Probably the peak of the trilogy.

Though all three games are excellent.

I was today years old when I realized that this game isn't called Diddy Kong's Quest, it is called Diddy's KONG Quest.

It's sort of a play on words, meaning Diddy's Conquest.

Ironically, DKL2 is the weakest of that trilogy.
