Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 3 + Samurai Warriors 3

Postby Verm1 » August 26th, 2011, 7:30 am

DW: Gundam 3 is a big improvement over the previous games in the DW: GW series.

It still makes no attempt to feature a story that is remotely accessible to someone without knowledge of Gundam (i.e. like me) and each mission is still near completely the same (i.e. aside from an occasional  side objective randomly taken from a small pool of literally, a few).

But the game play has a bunch of new features give the game its own identity among the warrior’s series, rather than just being Dynasty Warriors in space.

Comparatively, Samurai Warriors 3 is ultimately a step backward for the SW series; with each iteration, it loses more of its identity becoming a clone of its parent series Dynasty Warriors.

The place this is most noticeable in is probably the art style; the original SW was dark and gritty with everything being brown and gray. Some may consider that bland, but it gave the game a unique visual style against the bright colours and costumes of DW. SW2 was notably brighter than the original game, but SW3 is basically a cartoon compared to the original game. It’s still far away from Devil Kings/Sengoku Basara though.

The SW video is not particuarly good quality sadly.

Don’t get me wrong though, I’ve enjoyed almost every “Warriors” game made and will continue to purchase each new one.
