Sports Team Names You Miss

Postby jon » May 6th, 2024, 7:41 pm

I’ve been playing my baseball game with the option of using teams from 1996 and I was pleasantly shocked to see the California Angels listed. Boy, that does sound a lot better than their subsequent names like Anaheim, LA of Anaheim, and LA. And then there’s the all time goat Houston Oilers.

I miss the Mighty Ducks - and that awesome Disney logo.

I miss the Chargers as the San Diego Chargers. Why Los Angeles needs two is beyond me, same with New York having two teams: the Jets and the Giants (I"m a fan of the latter).

Still sore about the St. Louis Rams.

Yea, those are some pretty epic names. The Seattle SuperSonics, I mean c’mon how do you get rid of it. I’ll mention another one. How about the Washington Bullets. They had cool uniforms too.

Oakland Raiders. Las Vegas just doesn't sound right whatsoever. I need the Oakland Raiders.

Agreed. At least the Australian Rules Football League got it right by calling their Vegas team the Gamblers.

Minnesota North Stars, Montreal Expos, Hartford Whalers and the Phoenix Coyotes. I was never a fan of the 'Yotes, but I did like how the name sounded. Certainly a lot better sounding than the Arizona Coyotes for sure.

Also, I'll miss the name Oakland Athletics when they eventually move to Las Vegas. But what I heard, they're at least keeping the name of the team. Which is good. But Las Vegas Athletics dosen't have quite the same ring to it.

Finally, some names of long defunct teams that I'd like to see come back in one way or another: The California Seals and Cleveland Barons of the NHL, the Broome County Dusters of the AHL, and the Beauce Jaros of the long dead North American Hockey League (NAHL) from the 1970's.....
