I watched “King Creole”, an Elvis Presley movie from 1958. It’s really good. It’s true that with Viva Las Vegas and this one I’ve started off with some of his best. But I’ve been loving these movies. This movie is almost 2 hours and Elvis is in almost every scene. He easily portrays a great character in Danny Fisher. One thing that irritates me so much is that he’s The King. But little oh weirdo Michael Jackson and all his followers figured in 2024 we can’t have someone as awesome and…..well fill in the blank….. as Elvis be The King. So Michael Jackson is the king of pop and Elvis got downgraded to the King of Rock N’ Roll.

Do you think people started calling Michael Jackson the king of pop this year? Do you think Elvis was even alive to be "king" when Michael Jackson's solo career took off? How does differentiating their very different music "downgrade" Elvis?

To Elvis fans he is still the King. Michael Jackson is merely the King of Pop. Bruce Springsteen is the Boss. And Eric Clapton is God.

I'm not sure how official any of these titles actually are.

Watched "Tales of Halloween" on Prime last night. A bunch of short horror stories. So bad. The dialog was cringy, and I think they were directed by a bunch of 14-year-old boys. I guess they let anybody make movies now.

This is the last time I'm picking a "random" movie because if you never heard of it, it probably sucks.

Some bad movies are still bad in a fun way. Some are just boring. Sounds like you happened upon a boring one.

They've always just let anybody make movies. Your description doesn't sound any worse than half the stuff on MST3K. And I seriously doubt it's as bad as Galaxy Invader, an awful little tape from 1985 that I picked up at Goodwill one unlucky day.

I watched half of that on Tubi a couple weeks ago, and I'm sooooo glad you've given me an excuse to talk about it. I literally couldn't force myself to keep going past the halfway mark. The first story, Sweet Tooth, was fun. Corny, yes, but corny in the same way the ghost stories you tell around the campfire are corny. That was the only good one, though.

The Night Billy Raised Hell has a slightly amusing twist at the end, but "Mr. Abbadon" was just cringe inducing. I get what they were going for with him, but he's just a spaz. Also, random celebrity cameo and Twitter reference because POP CULTURE!

I didn't understand Trick. Killer trick or treaters? Sure, okay. But then there's a dead kid inside the house, she comes back to life, and they all just go back to trick or treating? Did I miss something here?

The Weak and the Wicked was just flat out stupid. The three "insane" teenagers aren't scary or intimidating in the slightest, they're what mall goths THINK is scary and intimidating. The monster looks pretty cool, but it's only on screen for, like, three seconds and you don't get to see it do anything.

Grim Grinning Ghost should have been awesome. It has freaking Lyn Shaye in it, for crying out loud! And the shot of the ghost materializing and walking up behind the main character is legitimately creepy. But then the ghost goes away, suddenly appears behind the main character again, and it just...ends. the ghost doesn't even look scary up close.

Ding Dong is where I called it quits. This one is just...whaaaaa? This lady is dressed as a witch and physically abuses her husband who is dressed as Hansel from Hansel and Gretel in between giving candy to trick or treaters. And the wife also turns into a four armed, red skinned demon at random times? In the end, the husband tells the wife that he got a vasectomy, she pushes him into the oven which sends him to hell(?????) and she melts because...I guess the director saw The Wizard of Oz once and he just thinks that's what witches do? Whoever wrote this one was 100% on all of the drugs.

In other news, I just got done watching The Doom that Came to Gotham. Early 1900s Batman fighting Cthulhu should have been amazing, but it was really just boring. It tries to condense a multi-book comic series into an hour and a half long movie, and that leaves it feeling like a checklist. Introduce Batman character, give them a Lovecraftian twist, kill them off, repeat. Ra's Al Ghul and Talia are two of my least favorite Batman villains (personal preference) and they take up a good chunk of the screentime that could have been devoted to Batman beating up unspeakable cosmic horrors...of which there are actually very few. While there's plenty of creepy things shambling around, the only one that can actually be called a Lovecraftian monstrosity comes in right at the end, doesn't do much of anything, and then gets taken out by someone else while Batman runs away like a pansy. In fact, the entire final battle is pretty stupid.
SPOILER WARNING
After passing through a portal made of Two Face (?????) Batman straight up murders Talia (!!!!!) and Ra's reveals that he's been the stupidest looking Cthulhu I've ever seen all along (?!?!?!?!) while a completely different elder god I've never heard of slowly tries to squeeze it's massive octopus butt through a second portal. Batman turns into a literal bat man (but Kirk Langstrom didn't, even though he was in this movie too) and kills Cthulhu. Then Etrigan shows up and stops the other god, because I guess that's just something he can do, even though he lost a fight to a common fire demon earlier. Batman runs away, the day is saved, and Batman is apparently stuck as a bat monster forever and lives in the Gotham clock tower.

What Galaxy invader is a class movie. A 10 out of 10. mst3k are a bunch of hacks who never made anything. I totally love Don Dohler. RIP Don, you are sadly missed. Thanks for reminding me of it. In one of Don's movies, the aliens always attack hicksville USA and kill they country folks. The movie is a Dream Cast of veritable fun for genre fans to laugh at. Maybe the best American movie EVER!!!

I think it kind of sucks that you have to go through so much trouble to watch anything nowadays. If it's on my service I might watch it, but no way am I signing up for all these random services.

If you have Roku, just do a search and it will tell you what platform it’s on. If you have the voice remote, it literally takes 3 seconds. Or the iMDB app does the same thing. Much better than the old days of having to individually search each platform.

We have Prime, Netflix (cheap version), and Max (free) and that seems to be enough. Dropped Disney a while back. Had Hulu, Peacock, and Paramount for a time just to watch a specific show and then dropped them too. I’ve done Tubi for a couple of oddball movies they just happened to have.

I guess I'll have to revisit it. I always thought it was the sorriest movie I'd ever seen, but that might be worth reconsidering if you like it so much.
