The Stanley Cup stays in America. Sorry, Oilers fans, but the Florida Panthers win 4 games to 3.
And I'm not going to lie, to me, Florida winning a hockey championship reminds me of Cool Runnings, except with the Jamaican Bobsleigh Team actually winning.

I was rooting so hard for Edmonton to score in the final period to send game 7 to overtime. Oh well. Still one heck of a game.

I was rooting for the Oilers to tie it up at least. I probably wanted them to win too haha. A sharp contrast from the mid 90’s when I was a die hard Panthers fan. I know I’ve beat a dead horse but for the last time, the whole franchise blueprint changed. They started at the Miami Arena as a Miami team basically then went all out for the atrocious northeastern transplant fan base that would’ve hated going to the Miami Arena.
They play in Sunrise. Keep in mind, when I was growing up in the late 80’s and early 90’s it was all undeveloped land that I was fascinated by. Well it’s all freaking yanks now. I’m hindsight probably should’ve seen it a mile away kind of like how in the summer of 1995 I should’ve known about the incoming PS1 takeover. So basically I wanted Edmonton to win and McDavid to deliver in the clutch.

I literally felt nothing when the game ended and the Panthers won. It’s almost like when the Lebron James led Heat teams won the titles. Several years earlier when the Shaq, D. Wade team won the franchise’s first title I was extremely happy, like a fan should be.
But at a certain point in the early 2010’s I stopped rooting for my teams if I hated the players. I mean, if somehow the Dolphins won the Super Bowl I’d be happy even though I hate Tua. But the Heat winning the 2 titles with Lebron, especially the 2nd I wasn’t feeling anything really. Lebron, with his 34% career 3 point shooting percentage and who’s never shot near 80% on free throws in a season. How many 3’s they let him and other manufactured overrated scrubs is a joke. He broke the scoring record congratulations. Do you know he would’ve broke it a lot earlier if he could shoot free throws. How does someone who can’t shoot get this type of recognition?
I thought Edmonton was such a better team to root for than Florida. Not only bc no Canada team has won since 1993 and it would be cool if Edmonton did it for the first time since the Messier and Gretzky teams. But the Oilers had Connor McDavid who had scored the most points in a postseason in a long time, before the 1990’s scoring decline. One thing about that 1993 Montreal Canadiens team is that a couple years later in the Florida Panthers inaugural season the Panthers built a 5-0 lead but then Montreal came back and tied it at 5 and that’s how it ended. I don’t even know if there was an overtime then. I think there was 5 minutes.

I’m watching these Panthers games and of course rooted for Toronto in game 7 but they lost. I think the Maple Leafs have the coolest jerseys maybe in team sports.
I’m still hoping a Canadian team can win for the first time since 1993 and Edmonton is back making a deep run, now up against the Stars.
But I have to admit the thing that bugs me about hockey is that it’s too fast. You have to give it your undivided attention and can’t ever look away. I always will have other things I’m doing and miss most goals. If you think about it, hockey is the only sport like that. In football you can do other things bc you can see when a play is coming up. Basketball you can tell when the actions about to happen. And baseball too.

Well, Edmonton has a chance again to be the first Canadian team since 1993 to win the Stanley Cup. I’m fully behind Edmonton as they take on the Panthers with their gigantic northeast transplant fan base. They might as well be the Florida Yankees.

I am looking forward to the start of the Finals tonight. I am a Rangers fan so I don't have a dog in the fight. I am rooting for the Oilers but I think the Panthers will win in six.
