Two greedy stockbrokers decide to do a little "experiment" of switching their wealthy protegee Winthorp (Aykroyd) with con artist Valentine, putting the former out of his job and lifestyle putting the latter in his place. Everything seems all fine and dandy for Valentine, until he overhears the stockbrokers plan and decides to track down Winthorp so they can get even with the double-crossers, in the market that is....A nice modern rendition of the classic story "The Prince and the Pauper" though many parts of it are tragically dated, including some eyebrow raising racial humor that doesn't stand the test of time. Another negative is that the laughs are uneven, though the best thing about this is the chemistry between Murphy and Aykroyd, and the funniest scene involves a (poorly animatronic) gorilla where the equally double crossing security man (Gleason) gets KO'ed, then gagged and put into a gorilla suit, and then two drunken custodians have some fun one claiming: "The black one is a female!".

This is actually a bit of a staple for me around the holidays, usually the week of Christmas or New Year since the movie takes place over that time frame. Not sure if you were aware but in addition to all other other famous folks, a pre-Senate-running Al Franken was one of the baggage handlers (the 'drunken custodians') as well.

Special shout out to Jaime Lee Curtis, who looks absolutely ah-maze-ing in this flick!

This stars Dick Van Dyke and was so obviously made in order to cash in on the success of Mary Poppins. It's _long_, it's slow and it's padded out with a ton of musical numbers, and the plot doesn't really kick in until late in the movie.

Yet it's so dang weird that I love it, and keeps getting weirder and weirder as it goes. Like a technicolor fever dream of a children's musical. I wonder how many saw this as kids and wondered if they dreamed it. Some of the musical numbers are great as well, with impressive dancing and choreography.

9/10

Did you ever read the book? Ian Fleming wrote it, and it's what you might expect from the James Bond guy's take on the idea. A very entertaining little children's novel.

I knew it was based on the Ian Fleming book, but I never read it. Wonder if it's as crazy as the movie.

It's much less fantastical. The bad guys are gangsters with a secret cave hideout and a plot for a big crime in Paris. The movie has basically nothing in common except the idea of a magic flying car.

So they basically took the book as inspiration to try and make another Mary Poppins.

A more faithful adaptation could still be done then.

"Now I have a Machine Gun. Ho-ho-ho"

That's right, the "Christmas Action movie" "Die Hard" (1988) While its disputed whether its truly a christmas movie or not, one thing is for sure, still one of the greatest and most influential action movies of all time. Bruce Willis as John McClane a NYC Cop trying to reunite with his estranged wife and kids at some corporate building. Things don't go according to plan when the ruthless, nefarious Hans Gruber and his gang of terrorists take over the building to claim millions of dollars. Gruber will stop at nothing to claim those millions, even taking out those who interfere with his plans. When no other policeman except one understanding cop Sgt. Powell (Reginald Veljohnson) will offer assistance, it's all up to John to stop Gruber's schemes. With the only flaw being it gets a little talk heavy in the middle part, the action is relentless and engaging from start to finish with all the memorable one-liners from McClane himself.

"Welcome to the party man!"

"Happy Trails Hans!"

Not about a specific movie because I honestly can't remember what it was, but we watched some movie on either Netflix or Amazon about 2 months ago where the opening production credits seemed to run about 17 deep. I was thinking holy cow, how many of these companies do I have see these shout-outs to before we get to the stinking movie?

Then I saw this small clip from a Family Guy episode that captured my feeling exactly: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ZXY3V10Z0Q0
Funny stuff.

Two tower's extended version on DVD, after the Critic's views of movies. So I thought I would watch all of them as there is nothing much that is epic on at the movies.
I watched Fellowship last month.

What the critic said, that the extra stuff, is just pure waffle. Yeah, there was a lot of waffle. Some dude is in love with an elf chick, and they were gonna make hybrid babies, but the head elf said no way. Wow!!!! What a load of old waffle.

The Helmsdeep battle was awesome and unlike GOT was not in the dark.
