Movies or TV series?

Postby DaHeckIzDat » January 29th, 2017, 1:05 pm

Seems like ever since Game of Thrones came out, people have wanted their favorite books turned into long running tv series instead of movies. I totally get that. Why settle for one 2-3 hour movie when you can get 12 or more hour long episodes telling the story chapter by chapter? The only downside I can think of is that you have to wait for each episode to come out, instead of getting it all at once like you would with a movie. Unless you wait to buy the complete season on DVD, of course, but then you can't watch the show at all until after all the episodes have already aired.

Anyway, which do you prefer?

I love me some GoT, but the wait between seasons is just yuck. Its going to be even worse with the next season, as it is going to be shorter than the rest.

In all honesty, I rarely follow a show week to week. I generally catch up on it on-demand and binge watch it. My favorite medium for TV shows is Netflix, as they just release the entire season of something all at once, and it is up to me how I want to watch it.

Production wise, there is really no difference between TV and movies anymore. Heck, even big name actors make the transition to and from TV these days, which used to be unheard of no more than a decade ago.

I miss 90-120min movies & 30-50 episode TV seasons.

150min movies takes up too much time; 22 episode seasons require too many breaks.

I'm not sure if a novel could fill up a 22 hour long episodes, & I think Peter Jackson could've made Lord of the Rings as a single film, so I'd probably prefer feature-length adaptions of most books.

I also miss half-hour drama/adventure shows, so, perhaps an adaption broken into 40 or so 25min chapters would be ok.
