The reason why it is a Japan's unofficial Disneyland is because it was supposed to be a official Disney park: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nara_Dreamland#History it because the deal fell through, but similarities remain.

Announcement of a public auction. The government of Nara, Japan was having trouble selling off Nara Dreamland after they took it for back taxes. The land had been rezoned, so it could only be use for "schools & welfare facilities."

Rather plain video, with sad footage of the abandoned, vandalized park. From Nara TV, apparently this is their official channel.

The closing show Nara Dreamland put on the last day the park was open. I wish I knew what they were saying, but Google thinks their speaking Portuguese, so the translation function won't work.
