If it gets made it'll be the 3rd movie based on the popular game franchise. The first is the rarely seen Great (or Grand) Mission to Rescure Princess Peach. The other was a live action film made in 1993.

The Bob Hoskins movie is one of the most unpleasant spectacles I've ever witnessed. No matter how this one ends up turning out, at bare minimum it'll be competently made as a film and have some discernible connection to the actual games.

I actually really loved the 1993 film. Yeah, it's cheesy as hell, but that just adds to the charm. Its a great bad movie.

Maybe I would have had more fun with it if it weren't just so gross to look at. You can almost smell every scene; it's like a big ol' foot right in your face. Everything's all dirty and floppy.
