What's interesting is that music went downhill just about the same time as video games. Rock's last hurrah was '91-'94 maybe '95 if you're stretching it. There were some solid albums released in the late 90's, especially metal albums.

1) Nevermind - I'm not too stuck up or "different" to not list this.
2) Warrant - Ultraphobic
3) Napalm Death - Utopia Banished
4) Lemonheads - It's a Shame about Ray

The 90's were my least favorite decade however, there are some gems

David Sylvian & Robert Fripp - The First Day. Darshan has some of my favorite guitar playing ever.
UFO - Walk on Water. 1990's reunion album from 70's classic line-up utilizing same producer from 70's. Sounds like they never left
Tears for Fears - Raoul and the Kings of Spain. I know people consider this a solo album from Roland Orzabal but that's ok with me. The extended version makes it even better.
Tangerine Dream - 220 Volt Live. Outstanding very guitar based performances. The bonus tracks bring it down but it is their best live album
Psychodots - Awkwardsville. Criminally underrated band (along with the Bears). This is the kind of music that makes me sad for what "modern pop" has become.
Kim Mitchell - Aural Fixations. Just consistent good rock music. Also criminally underrated outside of Canada
Killing Joke - Pandemonium. One of my favorite songs by any band is Exorcism from this album. It's terrifyingly angry...in a good way.
Fish - Sunsets on Empire. This release had a lot of influence from Steve Wilson before he became more famous and it shows. Fish's best release regard of decade released.
David Bowie - Outside. David Bowie changed course many times throughout his career but this was a pretty drastic one and it paid off. Brian Eno was a big part of this.
Camel - Harbour of Tears. Camel's best album. Plus, while it isn't considered as such, if you take the songs "Running From Paradise", "End of the Day", and "Coming of Age", you have my favorite 15 minutes of music of all time.
Angel City - Skin and Bone. Another underrated band. I prefer them over AC/DC. This perhaps isn't their best album in their career but it is one of my favorites from the 90's

Them's fightin' words son! For me, the '90s was the best decade ever for music. I'm not gonna turn around and say that it was the last good time for music, because there's still fantastic music being made all the time in the modern age. However, the number of undisputed classics, as well as hidden gems released during that decade was insane.

If you lived through the 80's like most of us, you'd get it. 8-)
