Some of my favorites listed by sub genre, geographical location or movement:
The Big Four:
1) Metallica "Master of Puppets"
2) Megadeth "Rust in Peace"
3) Slayer "Reign in Blood" and "Seasons in the Abyss" (tie). Reign because of the all out aggression. And Seasons because of the different tempos and the more nuanced and technical soloing by both Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman. Apparently, Kerry King took lessons from his old guitar teacher prior to the recording sessions for this album. And Hanneman was listening to a lot of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai during this time period.
4) Anthrax "Spreading the Disease.
Canadian Metal:
1) Annihilator "Alice in Hell"
2) Razor "Shotgun Justice"
3) Sheavy "The Electric Sleep"
American Metal:
1) Pantera "Far Beyond Driven"
2) Ministry "Psalm 69"
3) Machine Head "Burn my Eyes"
4) White Zombie "La Sexorcisto Devil Music Vol.1"
British Steel: (see what I did there)?
1) Judas Priest "Defenders of the Faith"
2) Iron Maiden "The Number of the Beast"
3) Black Sabbath " Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" (also one of my favorite album covers)
4) Motorhead " Snake Bite Love" . It just sounds so dirty and filthy. And the album cover is BOSS!!!
Death Metal
1) Carcass "Heartwork"
2) Death "Scream Bloody Gore"
3) Entombed "Left Hand Path"
4) Obituary "Slowly we Rot"
Various metal from around the world
1) Sepultura "Arise"
2) Kreator "Pleasure to Kill". I just love how it sounds so fast and out of control. It's almost like they just went in there and tried to play as fast as humanly possible without everything falling apart.
3)Overkill "Bloodletting" I really dig the raw as an infected dog bite production values on this one. Slick it is not
4) Mercyful Fate "Don't Break the Oath"
