Grid Snaps Podcast

Postby rohoGames » October 14th, 2018, 8:01 pm

Hey all!

Some of you might remember me as "feilong80" from many years ago when I used to post on these forums regularly.

Participating in these forums back in the mid-2000's was a strong motivator to get into the game industry, where I am currently a senior designer. The most famous game I've worked on is Bioshock Infinite (scored a B here!), though I've worked on a ton of stuff. I haven't achieved an "A" from Dave though- and my first published title, Despicable Me, was given an F, LOL (I really don't mind, Dave is tough and I respect that!).

Anyway, I have a podcast now that I do in my spare time, and I wanted to share it with you (maybe again? I might have actually dropped by to promote it before? I'm getting old).

Latest episode:

Anyway- I promise to remember to drop by as we make new episodes :) And to maybe post on the forums again (a promise I make to myself often, and fail it, sorry!).

Cheers,
Rob

Newest full episode! 2018's God of War, versus the older games in the series:

Yo mods: I assume this is the correct place to shill for these. If there is a better place, or you don't want me to, just say hey :)

Rob-
You are truly a legend of this forum. Not only did you set your mind to making it in the industry, you actually DID it!
I still feel bad about Despicable Me, but glad you were so cool about it.
Feel free to keep us informed about your latest projects. It's kind of cool to have an insider around here!
Take care
Dave

Latest podcast, which might interest you folks in particular since it is retro themed:

https://rohogames.podbean.com/e/gspc-episode-38-patrick-presents-psp-oddities-and-classics-including-cho-aniki-zero-ginga-fukei-densetsu-sapphire-and-gitaroo-man-lives/

Thanks Dave! I'm certainly making an effort to post and read these boards more! So much cooler than twitter/facebook and the rest. Definitely don't feel bad about panning the games I've worked on- one of the interesting things about making games professionally is most of the time your work is so "diffused" amongst the team that you don't take much personally, which I found surprising, but it's true. Project quality is mostly determined by factors outside of any one dev's control (and we pretty much know the general quality level of the project as we go- not many surprises.*

*One exception is I was certainly surprised Bioshock Infinite was "game of the year" and such. I thought it would be well received, but considered "good," not "great." I do note that most people have kind of reconsidered and now it is more in-line with what I thought it would be on release, critically speaking.

Here's a review that someone did of Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon that actually makes me laugh pretty hard now, but boy was I pissed off about it back in the day! It's super over the top, lol:

We kind of toyed with retro gaming in the last podcast, so we just did another one completely on that topic. I do give this website a shout, near the beginning!

Geeze, yet another podcast that is retro-oriented. I promise I'm not doing this on purpose, lol!

We talk the Resident Evil 2 remake, which is dang good! It has some elements of RE 7 but doesn't quite feel like it is "more scary than fun" as Dave so aptly put it in his review.
