Incredibly, the director has announced that they'll work on changing Sonic's design in the movie after all the negative feedback:

It'll probably be like Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite and the design will only be slightly tweaked...

Re: Sonic Live Action Movie trailer.
Recently, I finally brought myself the courage to watch the trailer. And... I think I hate it.
First off, I love Sonic. Yes, the franchise has been very hit and miss over the years; but when it hits, it hits. You can play recent entries like Sonic Generations and Sonic Mania and tell that Sega still cares about their mascot and its fans. Deep down, I secretly wished that a film based on Sonic would eventually happen. In my opinion, they could make it live-action. They could make it star both humans and mobians. But it would take a LOT more creativity and effort to pull off than this!
If there's one thing in this that I think could salvage the film somewhat, it's Jim Carrey as Robotnik. Yeah many seem to agree that it wasn't the right casting, but I remember his performance as Count Olaf in "A Series of Unfortunate Events", and if that film has taught me anything, it's that he CAN play a damn good villain. Everything else though just made me cringe so hard that my jawbone almost dislocated. In a way, I'm glad that they've announced a redesign for Sonic himself, because the way he looks in the trailer was just painful to look at. But I think what bothers me the most is the use of the song "Gangster's Paradise" by Coolio. That's something I'd expect to hear on the in-game radio in a sequel to "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas"; what the [expletive] does it have to do with Sonic?! If they were gonna license a song for the trailer, they should've just went with this one because that's how it makes me feel! Heck, gangster's paradise is what I'm gonna call it when I'm blocking someone's driveway in the east side of Compton so that I never have to see such mutilation to my favorite franchise again.
I could be wrong about this, but I thought I heard somewhere that the studio probably WANTED the film to be fantastically/interestingly bad - either that, or some fans were hoping for it to be that way - so people would still talk about it for years to come. I reject this line of thinking. I mean come on: we've already had to put up with Sonic 06 and Rise of Lyric along with a few other things tied to the franchise (Sonic Underground, the 4Kids National Anthem, etc.) that still haunt fans like myself to this day. Hasn't the blue blur suffered enough?

Re: Sonic Live Action Movie trailer.
Sega definitely has a habit of doing THE OPPOSITE of what everybody wants them to do. Look how long it took them to reprise Sonic in the old 2D style! They reluctantly put out Sonic Mania, and then followed it up with another dreadful 3D entry! OMG!
Either Sega is incompetent or we are the victim of the greatest practical joke in video game history.
