I take it all the complaining by Daniel Craig was just posturing to get a bigger contract. I mean, who wouldn't want to be James Friggin Bond?!?

And while the plot of Specter was far-fetched, I enjoyed the film. I wouldn't say the series is on life support considering the last two broke the bank at the box office.

This is very true. Spectre had a domestic box office of just over $200 million, and another nearly $680 million acros the globe ($879+ million worldwide). This was actually seen as a disappointment, since Skyfall pulled in just shy of $305 million domestically and another $805 million internationally ($1,100 million worldwide).

Looking at those numbers, I do wonder about "updating" Bond, or the franchise becoming "woke." When roughly 75% of your box office comes from outside of the US, how many of those countries actually care about having a female or a minority in the role?

But what do I know? Maybe it will be a $2 billion film if 007 is a black female.

I think this doesn't take into account the amount of work that goes into these things. Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans have been over the Avengers movies for literally years, they make a huge amount of money and are absolutely beloved for their performances, but being forced to work out all the time, not drink/smoke, etc. would get old after awhile. (Especially 10+ years) It's same thing for a big franchise like Bond. These are enormous undertakings both physically and mentally, and if you are already really rich, do you really need to keep at the same thing?

Hugh Jackman was saying a lot of similar things during his Logan appearances. "I'm playing an immortal character, but I'm getting old and can't keep up" and things like that. Money is great and all, but once you hit a certain wealth level I think quality of life starts to be a bigger deal.
