We had been discussing jazz in another thread and I'm really starting to appreciate it - particularly the old stuff.
Anyway the other night I caught a documentary on PBS called American Masters: Miles Davis Birth of the Cool
https://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmaster ... out/12306/
It was long but I loved watching it. Miles marched to his own drummer. He could be a real bastard at times but he was brilliant musically.
I have vague memories of seeing him on Letterman and SNL in the 80's, but this documentary traces all the way back to his childhood. It's fascinating. I learned a lot about jazz too. Seems to me the heyday was the late 50's/early 60's when it was at its purest.
