Mighty Final Fight (NES)

Postby Zack Burner » October 22nd, 2021, 10:37 am

I'm back with another review! Yes believe it or not, Capcom released a version of the original Final Fight on the NES, though taking some liberties. You can play as the original trio all with their strengths and weaknesses, plus some new tweaks. Gone is the score system, in its place is a levelling system. Everytime you gain enough EXP you gain a level (up to 6) which restores your health and at level 4 you get a special attack which is executed by pressing the attack and forward button simultaneously, the special is different per character. For Guy is a sonic boom like attack though it takes time to charge, Guy is a powerful double kick, and for Haggar a clothesline attack. There are weapons as well, but you only get them out of rolling barrels, for Cody knives, Guy a shuriken, and Haggar a pipe. Poison makes an appearance as well, plus an overly exagerated version of Andore. That Katana still gives me trouble. There are some flaws however, it's still one player like the SNES port, and like the SNES port enemy hits are cheap. Other than that, this is something worth checking out.

So is this really a fun game? It's hard to imagine small squat characters could be as fun to fight with. I noticed this cartridge goes for $300+ on ebay now. However the Japanese version is affordable - under $50. I wonder if there's much of a difference?

;)

Emulate and compare both for us.

Problem solved.

It really is quite a lot of fun, my friend. It plays very similar to it's SNES counterparts, though I think it's a little bit faster.

I bought the Famicom version because I couldn't afford the nes version. Besides the cutscenes having Japanese text, I haven't had any issues playing it. It was worth it to me.
