SUPER GLOB B+ EPOS/Coin-op

Has anyone else played this obscure little game in the 'cades or on MAME? I sometimes wonder how rip-offs like FROG and DONKEY KING make big bux while original little games like this suffered. I also wonder if a home version was ever made on any system? It was made in 1983.

SG is a cross between THE BLOB, Elevator action, and Super Pac Man. Weird, huh? Yes and very fun. You control a blue blob with a smiley face. The blob can jump back n' forth and with a JUMP button can stick to ceilings. The screen is a number of floors connected by from one-three elevator shafts. Elevator buttons can be pushed to call the nearest one to your floor, so you can ride to the next. The object is to eat all the yummy objects (or is that ENVELOP?) , including Grapes, melons, HAMS and steaks (unlike pacman GLOB is not a vegetarian!).....each floor has from 3-8 of these items. Of course it's not that easy-patrolling the floors are animals that try to stop you. They will kill you if you run into them BUT-important!-you can stick to the ceiling and fall on them, squishing them, or even time an elevator to squash them flat. Enemies I've seen are ALLIGATORS-they just move back n' forth; FROGS-careful, they can JUMP!; and RABBITS that can jump and TRACK you. There are probably more on higher levels.

This is a very fun game with several downsides....the graphics are really bad, I mean, the Glob is actually the best looking thing! The objects are identifiable, but the enemies are small and mono-colored, looking like something in an Odyssey2 game! The floors are minimalist, just elevators, floors/ceilings and objects, enemies and buttons. No scenery to look at. No intermissions either. The sound is fine, but I wish it were more SQUISHY, and you SHOULD be able to see the glob EAT(envelop) stuff. They really did not spend much time on the aesthetics.

Fortunately the game is fun enough on it's own. If you run across one (or the ROM) give it a try. It's GLOBtastic!

oops! I just went back and played this....the enemies are REALLY small so it's hard to tell, but they do indeed have two colors! Like, the alligators have green bodies but yellow bellies and eyes. But like I said you REALLY have to look close, they are so small! (escaped Gnome pets, maybe?)
