Mutant Fighter (Arcade)

You could call this the "Grandfather" of Mortal Kombat with a little touch of wrestling mechanics. In fact if you are lucky enough to have Retrocade, this game is included. You get an assortment of 8 fighters some are human, others are creatures, my favorites are The Minotaur, Amazoness, and the Dragon. Each character has basic attacks, running attacks, wrestling holds and one Super Throw which can only be performed if the meter below your character's health bar is filled up. Wrestling mechanics are a bit of luck and mashing as well. You move an attack key and a directional key in one direction to fight it out when you lock up. Each character has different wrestling mechanics. For example The Minotaur can do a German Suplex or a Torture Rack, The Golem can throw the opponent by the legs, and Chokeslam, etc. The backgrounds are all varied and bring something new to the table. You have a few plain arenas, though the designs are interesting, as you progress you get more elaborate arenas with traps such as spike balls, heat floors, pistons, spikes on opposite sides, and ice. Near the end you face three different bosses: a doppleganger, a demon, and an archmage. What's cool is you can go one-on-one, coop versus, or even cooperative play for two. This one's a bit dated, but it's worth checking out.
