The Amazing Spider-man (GB)
Spider-man has many exploits across many systems, but how about his first outing on the gameboy? That's what I'm here to talk about today. Of course since this is an early gameboy game, the graphics aren't exactly anything to write home about, they're pretty simplistic even back then, but hey it gets the job done. Spider-man looks like a wimpy dork then the moderately built superhero that he is. Ironically, the villains look better which range from Mysterio, Hobgoblin, Rhino, Scorpion, Doctor Octopus, and finally Venom. Most of the stages are side-scrolling though two stages feature climbing a building. When you climb you have to dodge objects, thankful of the trusty Spidersense to detect danger. Gameplay is basic but gets the job done, punch jump and web sling for swinging and offense. The challenge is just right and there's some fun to be had. The cinematics of Spider-man interacting with the villains will at least make you chuckle as he insults them with stuff like "Fish-bowl face", "Pumpkin brain", "Neanderthal", "Tail Twirler", "Atom arms", and "Tooth face". The music is good too, the boss theme is the best one. The sequels improved on the graphics, but not on fun and charm like this one had.

I can always appreciate a critic who can look past marginal graphics to find fun in the gameplay.
