Pokemon Red/Blue (GB)

Every franchise and every journey has to have a great start and this is one of them. Release in 1998 for anyone who grew up in the late 90's early 2000's this was more than a game, it was a barrier breaker, a friend maker (and sometimes friendship breaker), and much more, plus it grew up with you. So do these two games hold up today? Yes and no at the same time! The graphics weren't exactly simple, just rough around the edges even today, though some of the graphics of the creatures hold up, some don't. The music is still great among my favorites are the Vermillion City theme, Celadon City theme, the gym battle theme, and lavender tower theme (if you hear it on Youtube, the echo amplifies the fright factor!). The gameplay is the usual RPG fare that was simple but effective and even now it still holds up. The big problem is there are glitches, though these can be more beneficial than problematic, the most well known is the Missingno. and Mew that enables you to catch some creatures you couldn't get in your version or through trading. All in all, a revolutionary title and piece of history still worth playing today.
