Power Punch II (NES)

Postby Zack Burner » November 18th, 2019, 8:12 am

Disclaimer: Despite the title, there's no original Power Punch.

This is considered to the the "sequel" to Punch-Out, but unfortunately, this one doesn't have the same magic as the predecessor. The concept is an interesting one: You play as Mark Tyler (this was going to be Mike Tyson, but Beam Software didn't want to get into legal troubles with Mike himself), who claims himself unbeatable, but the broadcast is picked up by the Intergalactic Boxing Federation who brings in a slew of opponents ranging from robots to aliens to challenge him. In between fights you get some training sessions, and here is where the flaws come visisble. The concept is good but you'd have to pay attention to it. The controls feel a little bit loose, and unlike regular Punch-Out, weaknesses aren't always visible. The graphics and music is good I'll say that, but overall you'll be disappointed with this one.
