Simpsons Bart's Nightmare

Postby Zack Burner » January 26th, 2020, 5:44 pm

With the release of the Simpsons arcade game way back in 1991, it would be imperative that Simpsons games reach home consoles. The arcade game was successful, that would mean console games would achieve the same success right? Wrong! Starting with this game, there was trend of shoddiness and it shows despite a good, valiant effort to bring home all the charm and wit of the show, they missed some key ingredients to make it successful. Bart is putting more effort into his schoolwork until he falls asleep and has a dream that he loses 8 homework pages and must travel through the dreamland to retrieve them or get a bad grade. Here;s where the first problem lies, you are wandering around a hub world trying to find a homework page interacting with people and items that either help you or hurt you and if you run out of Z's it's game over. There's too much going on though certain things depending on circumstance can aid you, such as shooting bubblegum allows you to obtain extra Z's. When you do find a homework page here's where the "fun" begins. You choose one of two different colored doors each with a different game. Only a few of these are really worth your time. In one you are Bartzilla causing as much damage as possible, though attacking is kind of limited to fire breaths and laser eyes. Aiming is sloppy and you have to defend yourself from damage. When you cause enough damage you get shrunk down and this part's a little better though only just. You have to climb up a skyscraper avoiding hazards including Marge as a giant moth. Your goal is to reach the top and conquer Homer Kong, you have only one attack: body electrify, everytime you use it the power diminishes so it's best to use it until you reach the top and use it when Kong punches, might take two to work.
A 2nd game is where you are Bartman using his trusty slingshot to battle foes such as Terri & Sherri, Barney Gumble, Smithers, and of Course Burns in the sky, while avoiding hazards such as clouds and lightening though Apu shows up with health restoring items. This one, though flawed is quite fun.
The 3rd game has you in an adventure area and to be honest this is the worst of the bunch as you hop from stone platform to another trying to figure out which rock makes another rise along with other hazards.
The 4th game is where you are in a blood stream trying to pump up and burst germs attacking you while collecting the fission joes to obtain the homework sheet.
The 5th and final game is where you are in Itchy and Scratchy and you have to obtain weapons to battle them and it's pretty frustrating.
With only a few fun games surrounded by garbage games, this one is not worth your time.
