I enjoyed reading each review, those were fun. However I'm curious about one thing, you said NHLPA had full motion video. Forgive my ignorance but I didn't think a cartridge could do that. Only disc games. Maybe I'm not aware of this
But that seems pretty wild to me.

These were very short clips with choppy animation. But they were a few frames of real video so they count.

Syndicate, Sonic 3d Blast, Red Zone, and Rise of the Robots all have FMV sequences.

The only thing preventing it from happening more often was the size of full motion video files. It's great as a bonus when your game is small and doesn't fill the cart, or you're really getting creative with compression techniques, but...

If you wanted to tell an actual story, it was better to use vectors like Flashback and Out of This World.

Still, ROM sizes got bigger, and data compression more efficient -by the time of the GameBoy Color, they could use FMV to create entire stages in Toy Story Racer. And the N64's Resident Evil 2 has all the cut scenes of the PS1 version.

By the time of the GBA, they could fit entire TV shows and movies on a cartridge.

Ah, so Winter Challenge WAS the game I thought it was! This game was included on the Evercade Piko Collection 2 (the one with all the Sports games), and if playing it is as accurate as the Genesis cart, then the review is spot-on. The Ski game is impressive considering the original hardware, but yeesh, the camera shifting as you move makes it hard to see upcoming gates

Need to try the hockey game. Being from Georgia, never really developed a taste for hockey (when I was growing up, we had an NHL team that was "affectionately" called the "Trashers," and they are not here anymore...

I liked Winter Challenge a lot more on MS-DOS, where the speed isn't an issue. GOG should have it available, bundled with Summer Challenge.

What is GOG?

The Evercade Piko Collection 2 cart has both Summer Games and Winter Games on the cart, using the Genesis versions from what I can tell:

Good Old Games

You can buy classic games without DRM. It's wonderful.

Am I losing my mind (always possible), or did these two reviews -- which I enjoyed reading last night -- just disappear?
