2023/1/26: Sega CD: Chuck Rock, Chuck Rock II: Son of Chuck

Remember I posted those updated Genesis Chuck Rock reviews a few weeks back?
I was just setting you up for these new Sega CD reviews!

Chuck Rock is new, Chuck Rock 2 is slightly downgraded from B+ to B.
I still prefer the original game, but enjoy them both very much.

Thoughts?

Though quite a lot of titles took advantage of the Sega CD's additional hardware, many didn't. Certain releases like night trap and sewershark offered something completely different to what we were used to; basically an interactive movie. Sonic CD did what the Megadrive alone could not but provided a very fun traditional gaming experience. I was so put off the idea of the hardware because titles like Chuck Rock (by no means a bad game) were released for the expensive add-on at a high price with often nothing of note to distinguish them from their Megadrive counterpart.

Yeah you may have noticed I graded both of those only slightly higher than their Genesis counterparts (half grade).

I think Chuck Rock deserves it on the basis of better music and password feature.

Not sure the sequel deserves that bump, as it doesn't offer much more.

I have seen Youtube videos of both games, and I feel like the Sega CD could have been a little bit better like having more cutscenes, but perhaps they didn't have the budget, not enough space on the CD, or they got lazy, I don't know which, but that could have seriously improved on it. The 2nd game feels more like the Flintstones somewhat.

I enjoyed reading these 2 Sega CD reviews and I'm sure I'll re-read them down the road as I browse through the whole library. Since you recently reviewed the Genesis versions, I don't have much else to comment on, however.
