2023/2/8: Evercade: Data East Collection 1, Gaelco Arcade 1

Postby VideoGameCritic » February 8th, 2023, 7:54 pm

Here are two more Evercade cartridge reviews. Data East Collection 1 was one of the first carts for the system. Gaelco is a newer one from the "arcade" line. Interesting stuff.

Thoughts?

You didn't care for Bio-mechanical Toy? Currently I have the house high at Galloping Ghost with a 1cc.

Alligator Hunt - it is a hard game with no health pickups. But just like Cabal. GGA also has it.

Thunder Hoop - you probably missed this but this game was heavily influenced by Dragon Ball as the main character is a dead-ringer for Goku. The final boss fills the role of Vegeta in TH Strikes Back. This game requires memorization of the levels. GGA has both.

Second paragraph of the Alligator hunt review has a missing word. You are talking about guitar music I think but you just say it has mind numbing guitar. Which makes me think Alligator Hunt is rhythm action game rather than a cabal clone.

Two interesting collections. Neither of them exactly makes me want to play them. Though they are good additions to the Evercade library after the miss fire on the Atari cart.

The Alligator Hunt review says "World of the Worlds" where I think you meant War of the Worlds.

The extremely dated Karate Champ should have been replaced with Karnov in the Data East collection.

Keep the Evercade reviews coming! I've been thinking about picking up Gaelco. I'll probably just put my money toward C64 Collection 2 for now.

The Data East Collection is a good fave, with Joe and Mac 2 being a big draw (and with the VS, the totally-not-Street-Fighter-II game... ;-) )

Gaelco is fun, and honestly until the Irem cart this was the Arcade cart I played the most; then again, I need to spend more time with the Jelaco Arcade cart.

I am very exited for the C64 2 cart, and really looking forward to the eventual Amiga cart(s) that Blaze has confirmed will release this year.

WoW!!! Gaelco was a spanish developer from 1985! Good old times...
I Hope in next Gaelco collection 2 they include Radikal Bikers, ATV Track, world rally 2 and Smashing Drive (previously reviewed for Game Cube).

As much as I like the Evercade, I don’t think it can handle Smashing Drive. It seems to strain to run the few Ps1 games on it.

Thus far, as far as I can tell, the most advanced systems represented on the Evercade line is both the GBA and PSX; I don't know if any more advanced system is on the system, though there is a game that was rebuilt around the actual system hardware (Cathedral)
