2023/3/27: Sega Genesis: X-Men, X-Men 2: Clone Wars

I originally review these Genesis X-Men games 23 years ago, so I think it's time!!

The first one kept the same grade (D) but the second was upgraded from B- to B+. I was really loving it!

What do you think?

The score for X-Men 2 is still showing up as a B- for me.

As far as the games themselves go, I've only spent any real time playing X-Men 2 and I have to agree, it's a very solid game, especially for a US produced title. The game looks far more bold and expressive compared to the first and the music actually changes certain elements depending on what character you're using. I do recall a massive difficulty spike as you head into stage 3, one that has put me off from playing the game for about 10 years now. It's a shame that as soon as the US teams started cranking out great games like X-Men 2 and Comix Zone that rivaled what the Japanese were producing, Sega hit the reset button with the 1-2 combo of releasing the Saturn and shuttering Sega Technical Institute.

I fixed the X-Men 2 grade. It is a B+.

I'm surprised there isn't more discussion on here about these games. While I don't think they've aged well, they were amazing to me at the time and were a pretty big deal at the time.

It was so cool that you could play as magneto in the second game as well.
