I think one of the main reasons this hasn't been the subject of a congressional anti-trust action is because video games have long been considered so inconsequential. However, in recent years the industry has grown as big as any other form of entertainment, so hopefully someone will begin to take notice.

Well I do not think it is illegal to have an exclusive contract for your own brand. Game companies can still make football games.
Also, I would say EA is the NFL's whore, I mean, the NFL has no risk and gets a HUGE royalty from EA. I doubt they will change (who knows) cause I think they make more money this way.
I feel your pain, even though I do not like realistic sports game sin general, and Madden/Etc in particular.
