Well I do not think it is illegal to have an exclusive contract for your own brand. Game companies can still make football games.

Also, I would say EA is the NFL's whore, I mean, the NFL has no risk and gets a HUGE royalty from EA. I doubt they will change (who knows) cause I think they make more money this way.

I feel your pain, even though I do not like realistic sports game sin general, and Madden/Etc in particular.

I truly hope the exclusivity deal is not reinstated between the NFL and EA so we can get another 2K football game.
On the other hand, I really wish there was another EA MVP baseball game. EA had the greatest baseball game I ever played in MVP 2005 (2nd only to WS98 for the Saturn) and I always liked 2K's football better.

My brother and I still play ESPN NFL 2k5. I've tried the new Maddens and they're fun, but until one is more fun then NFL 2k5 I have no reason to get one.

From what I have read it was the nfl that went to EA about the exclusive deal not the other way around. I read that from an EA source so take it for what its worth.

dug out ESPN NFL 2K5 again last night and this is STILL by far the best football game ever made..it has everything a football fan could want..the highlight show at half and at the end is amazing

It's an amazing game. I feel like I missed out on those cool highlight shows because the PS2 didn't have that. It's actually the same thing with College Hoops 2k8 where the Xbox 360 version has highlights but the PS3 doesn't. It makes sense that Microsoft's consoles can do highlights but Sony's can't. Microsoft was making computer games back in the day and started out that way. Sony had no experience with computer games, or video games in general when they hit the market. For some reason I think that extra data had something to do with them having experience with computers to make a more computer like console. I mean games like Halo leaned on the computer side of things. I don't understand why the PS3 also couldn't do highlights. Yikes. Microsoft was making games as far back as the early 90's. It's definitely a reminder that (besides DVD capabilities) the Xbox and Xbox 360 were probably better consoles.
