As for the idea that the 7800 had better light gun games than the NES:

Alien Brigade (Good game)
Meltdown (Not great)
Barnyard Blaster (Not great)
Crossbow (Good game)
Sentinel (Not great)

Alien Brigade is a superb game. Far and away the best 8-bit light gun game. Hogan's Alley is no better than Barnyard Blaster, it is just remembered with more nostalgia (Barnyard Blaster does suck though, we agree on that).

You forgot Chiller NES. I rented that as a kid, with no idea what it was going to be. Still one of the coolest surprises ever. It was like if your parents rented you Child's Play because they thought it was a kids movie about a talking doll toy.

Ok, I have a soft spot for Hogan's Alley! I played it with my cousin quite a bit as a kid. I still think it is way better than Barnyard Blaster, and I have played both recently. Alien Brigade is a great game, for sure.

I actually didn't forget about Chiller. I left off a bunch of NES light Gun games since they were fairly obscure. I tried to focus on the best games for both systems, although there were only five releases for the 7800. For light gun games, I'd rank the systems as follows:

Sega Master System
NES
7800

We're both definitely agreed on the SMS being tops it seems. Maybe Alien Brigade and Crossbow being so high on my list of favorites bumps the 7800 up for me more than it should. To be fair to the the NES, like most people in my age range, Duck Hunt is probably the lightgun title I have the most nostalgia for on any system.

Master System Light gun games are still pretty fun on your phone using the touch screen as the light gun. I was stuck waiting today and Rambo 3 helped pass the time.

The Famicom had the best lightgun at least. It even had a recoil thing on it

Based on the copyright screen, the arcade game from Taito was 1989…
