I hate to be overly critical here, Dave, but reading your Grim Fandango review, I don't get the impression that you got anywhere close to completing the game. It really feels like you played the first year and called it quits.
The puzzles you complained about aren't particularly difficult to figure out. In fact, I'd argue none of the puzzles are particularly tough until you get to year 3.

It's been a couple years since I played Grim Fandango, but I remember getting stuck on the first area's puzzles too. The one with the balloon and the birds is the worst example of "how the hell did they expect me to figure that out?" but none of them were on the same level of ridiculousness as the spitting contest from Monkey Island 2.

The dialogue hints at the solutions to these puzzles.

So is that a review of Resident evil 4 HD remaster? Or is it Resident Evil 4 the recent remake? 2016 suggests it was the remaster which originally came out on the 360/ps3. I know they did physical copies for some of the games.

I think it's the latest. I couldn't find the right year. What should it be?

Glad to see the Grim Fandando review! It came out on PCs in 1998 to rave reviews, and I was disappointed for years that I couldn’t play it. I grabbed this remaster the second it came out on consoles, and finally got to play it. I can’t fault the D+. Like many adventure games, it’s not as good as it was in the 90s. It’s held up better than most others though, including Monkey Island. I felt pretty similar to you when I played it, although I still thought it was a good game overall. Just for a different perspective, below was the write-up I posted on the forums and the day after beating this game on PS4 in 2017:

(Con’t from above)
I beat Grim Fandango Remastered last night and figured I'd post an update now. Overall, I enjoyed the game and I'm glad I played it. The world and characters are great, the dialogue is a lot of fun, and the story is fairly interesting too. It has a very good sense of humor, and tries to capture the vibe of old film noir movies. I especially enjoyed the Second Year of the game (it is spread across 4 Years), because it takes heavy influences from Casablanca, which is one of my favorite movies. In fact, I was inspired to watch a few old movies just by playing this game, including Casablanca again and Maltese Falcon for the first time.
The gameplay, on the other hand, might not be for everyone. Although it is played in a fully 3D world, it still feels like a point-and-click adventure game at heart. Things move slowly. You find objects and solve puzzles. There's no action, no fighting, no way to die. That doesn't mean it's easy though...it's often tough to figure out how to solve a puzzle or decide what to do next, and you'll almost certainly reach for a walkthrough at a couple points.
Grim Fandango is considered a classic among PC gamers. I can understand why... back in the late '90s, very few games had great characters and stories and really made you laugh. So Grim stood above the crowd. In fact, when talking about how games have progressed in the 20 years since then, I'd argue that the improvements to writing/stories/etc. has been even bigger and more critical than the progress to graphics/sound/etc. Games have good stories now and they can make you laugh as much as movies. So Grim Fandango isn't as profound as it was 20 years ago, but it's still worth a look, especially for the retro-minded gamers who want to catch up on games with "classic" status.
I give it a B+ if you have the patience for old adventure games, and a C+ if you don't. Day of the Tentacle is another classic by Tim Schafer, which I'd also recommend, with the same grades. An updated version of that game is also on PS4 and other systems.
