What better way to kick off the summer but with a pirate game?? Hmmm maybe we could have found a better one. Oh well.

Re: 2025/5/19: Playstation 5: Sea of Thieves (Guest Review)
This is absolutely a game that lives and dies by having a group of friends you can hit the high seas with. It's not very much fun as a solo experience because you can't adequately defend yourself against a group of three or more, no matter how good you are at the game. There is also no real progression of abilities or skills for all the plunder you sell; all you can do is buy cosmetics, at least when I last played.
The whole point of Sea of Thieves is to act as sandbox for you and your buddies to explore where you can experience 'watercooler' moments to talk about and look back upon. There honestly isn't much game if you strip out those emergent moments or choose not to engage in them. The score is a bit harsh but ultimately justified for solo players.

Some people aren't going to like what I have to say but I absolutely refuse to play these games. I don't want to invest a whole lot of time into a game that is entirely dependent on an online server that will inevitably one day be shut down, and this isn't intended as a dig at folks who like these sort of games. More power to you. Just my personal preference.

It seems like if a game is from a AAA studio it is unlikely to be worth playing. Cannot say I am surprised by the outcome of this review. Graphics killer, gameplay not. I am glad I was was frugal enough to give this a pass even through I was mildly interested in it at the time.
As for pirate games, not too many I can think of that could get an ahoy matey.

Nice review. Interesting to see Microsoft and Rare release a game on a Playstation console.. Is that a thing now?

It came out on PS5 about a year ago. Microsoft has been talking a lot about making their main franchises multiplat for a while now. There's even rumors going around that the Master Chief Collection will come out on PS5 sometime this year.

Hey guys, I think you should probably settle this in PMs. Sorry if I'm being rude here, but as mods, I'm sure you can work out your differences. I'd hate to see you guys keep fighting

I have also deleted mine and other comments, you are right, I am being childish and I do not want a flame war.

I fully agree. There was the recent case of The Crew video game getting shut down, although a fan-led project is bringing the game back with an offline mode, albeit for PC only, console versions will remain dead forever it seems. In response to the backlash, Ubisoft is adding an official offline mode in the game's two sequels, The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest. I think, unless fan-led server emulators or offline modes are added, these games are simply not worth playing. Sea of Thieves in particular never appealed to me in any way, either.

Playing this game solo was definitely a killer for it. It'd be like reviewing Mario Party solo.
