2025/10/6: Playstation 5: Pumpkin Jack

Well, this is the first of an onslaught of new Halloween reviews! I enjoyed Pumpkin Jack quite a bit despite a few annoyances.
This one is available for many platforms. I got my physical copy from Limited Run Games. Glad to have it.

I can't pronounce this name of this without singing that old Captain Jack song!

I enjoyed it, but I would have given it a C. I thought the levels went on for too long. Each level has a gimmick like riding a horse, or a push cart, or a gargoyle, and they're all fun once. The problem is that the levels were stretched out so much that you had to do all of them at least two or three times. I also didn't like the boss fights. The final boss was especially frustrating. I thought the gun you get midway through was the best weapon in the game. It had better range, unlimited ammo, and the dodge attack where he pops back up and mag dumps into whatever's in front of him was enough to absolutely destroy most of the enemies. Not a great game, and I'll probably never play it again, but it has more "Halloween" in one level than most games do in their entire runtime.

Yeah and I suspect it's exactly the same on both systems. This isn't the type of game that's going to tax modern hardware.

For anybody interested, Pumpkin Jack is on sale for $7 on the PSN. I picked it up for the PS5 this morning. looking forward to giving this one a go.

I picked up the LRG release of this for Switch because I'm not buying any more Playstations until they release a new Uncharted game.
